Sculpting Cake Recipes: The recipe for the cake is just a traditional pound cake recipe...any would do, if you have a preferred recipe.
1 lb butter
1 lb sugar
1 lb eggs
1 lb flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
The butter can be substituted with high ratio shortening if the cake is not going to be eaten.
Mix butter or shortening with sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time until well blended. Stir flour and baking powder in on low speed until mixed in well. add vanilla. Pour into greased and floured pans. Repeat.
Cake Mix Poundcake If you want to you can use a cake mix instead of the scratch recipe:
2 betty crocker cake mixes
6 eggs
1/2 cup oil
1 cup sour cream
Mix all of the above on speed 4 until well blended and very smooth add
2c waterbump the mixer a couple of times until the water is not going to splash out of the mixer and then mix on 4-6 for 2 minutes.
Either one will work but the sour cream cake will spoil if it is baked too far ahead. both cakes are tough and good for carving. If you have a very sturdy cake that can be moved around well without breaking they can use you own recipe, just no light fluffy cakes for this project!
