Spotlight

Amy Eilert
Amy began making treats for classroom parties and celebrations. As the year progressed, so did her quirky little treats until people started asking her if this is what she did for a living. After a year and half of research and preparation, Amy launched Cupcake Envy LLC, specializing in custom sculpted mini cakes. As her portfolio of designs grew, she decided that Cupcake Envy’s little masterpieces would make great gifts for friends and families. Mini cake designs that are created especially for the recipient, from the design and color to personalization and details, she never does the exact same design twice.

Capital Confectioners 6th Annual That Takes the Cake! Sugar Art Show & Cake Competition

As many of you know, planning is well underway for our 2010 cake show. Our theme is 2010 Cake Odyssey, a little play on 2010 Space Odyssey for those of you who are not quite as geeky as me. This is a great opportunity to bring out your inner geek. From Star Wars to Star Trek, from the Jetsons to Lost in Space, from Harry Potter to Twilight, all your sci-fi and sci-fantasy entries are welcome in our showcake category.

This theme does not apply to our other categories, such as wedding cakes, so fear not if your talents lay in another direction. Read our Rules and Regulations

Cupcakes Take the Cake!

There is a new category in town: cupcakes! Yes, those tasty little morsels have wormed their way into our hearts and their own competition. To celebrate the arrival of our newest baby, we'll be joined by Amy Eilert, founder and owner of Cupcake Envy in Wake Forest, NC, to head-up the judging for this portion of the competition. She is known for her creative and innovative decorated cupcake designs.

If you haven't seen Amy's darling cupcakes then be sure to check out her website! Cupcake Envy...

The Amazing Mike McCarey

There is a reason his business is called www.mikesamazingcakes.com">Mike's Amazing Cakes. Mike McCarey is undoubtedly one of the most amazing sugar artists in the industry. Mike will be teaching his chocolate modeling class but in addition to that he'll be teaching a brand new class in structure building. The really cool thing about this class is that you'll be able to have a say in your design with Mike right there to help you with each step along the way. It's not often that you get the opportunity to learn from the best so take advantage. The price for this rare opportunity to study under such a renowned master includes all the supplies, making it quite a bargain. It may not be offered again in the future and space is limited, so reserve your spot quickly
