I reviewed Composi-Mold on my blog after the folks who make it contacted the club through our page, and I am so impressed by it that I’ll be doing a demo of it along with Jennifer for the August club meeting. Until then you can get a preview of what it’s all about here.

Note that this is me speaking as myself and the club does not endorse specific products, although the club is happy to help bring vendors and cake decorators together.

Come one and all to our monthly meeting tonight! 7 pm at Make it Sweet. New folks always welcome. We’re very newbie-friendly, and you don’t have to have any experience decorating cakes or anything. Come by and check us out. Details here.

Secondly, I heard on KUT this morning about the Texas Pie Kitchen, which trains low income adults in culinary skills. They need volunteer bakers to help out, so if you’re interested, click the link and find out more. Or maybe buy some pies. Mmmm, pies….

I had a wonderful time demonstrating some “Trendy Fondant Accents” to the club during our August meeting! Thank you so much! Here are the tutorials on what I showed.

AUSTIN, Texas – July 3, 2012

Capital Confectioners’ 2012 “Day of Sharing” will feature demonstrations by local, national, and international sugar arts experts including the UK’s famed flower maker Alan Dunn.

“Alan Dunn has been creating botanically perfect flowers for some 20 years,” said Kyla Myers, president of Capital Confectioners. “He literally wrote the book on the subject – almost a dozen of them!”

Dunn is a sought-after presenter, having taught extensively throughout the UK as well as in the US, Canada, Japan, Holland, Sweden, The Channel Islands, Brazil, South Africa, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand.

“It’s been over a decade since he’s taught in Texas, so we’re thrilled to be hosting him at our event this year,” Myers said.

Other demonstrations will be provided by Yvette Humbert, Dawn Parrott, Kathleen Lange, and Lorraine McKay. This year’s theme is “Holidays”, so presenters will be incorporating that into their demonstrations and club volunteers will do likewise with donated desserts for all.

Registration is now open at . The cost is $45 ($50 after August 1) and includes all demonstrations, a continental breakfast, and a catered lunch. Vendors and raffles offer extra goodies for budget-friendly prices. Additional classes with Dunn and several other demonstrators are also available before and after the event.

Capital Confectioners Club Monthly Meetup
Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 7:00 PM
Make it Sweet
9070 Research Blvd, Austin, TX

The meeting starts off with introductions and club business and ends with a dessert and a demonstration.

This month’s demonstration will be by Ellen and Chris Cantrell: techniques for wedding cupcakes.

Dessert will be brought by Suzanne Sabin.

PLEASE NOTE THE NEW LOCATION! Henceforth we’ll be meeting at the new location of Make it Sweet (formerly All in One BakeShop) at the Crossroads Shopping Center, 9070 Research Boulevard, Austin, TX 78758-7004. This is just down the street from their previous location. They are located between Pluckers and Tabu (if you look on a Google Street Maps view, it’s where the furniture store used to be).

New folks always welcome! We’re okay with people checking us out a few times before signing up for membership, so come on by and see what we’re up to.

Several new faces this meeting!  Welcome, all!

Pearland had their Day of Sharing last weekend.  The demonstrators’ handouts are now available online on their website:  On February 5th, the Texas ICES will have their Day of Sharing in Montgomery, TX.  Please visit their website for more information:

The club is a buzz with excitement for our upcoming 8th annual That Takes The Cake Sugar Art Show and Cake Competition.  We announced some volunteer opportunities and perks.  Please use our online volunteer registration form if you’re interested:  We’d like volunteers to work a minimum of a 5 hour shift.  It’s a whole lot of fun, so don’t miss out!

Irene is hoping to get her hands on some of these darling cake pendants to sell at the show:

Our next monthly club meeting will be a little different.  We bumped the date up to February 7th (to free up Valentines Day).  It will also be at Make It Sweet‘s brand new location:

Crossroads Shopping Center
9070 Research Boulevard
Austin, TX

That will be our last club meeting before the big show!  We’ll be doing some projects for the show at this meeting and also at several smaller meetings during the month.  Lots to do and not much more time to do it in!  Check back on our blog, Facebook, and MeetUp pages for updates on when we’re meeting and where.

This meeting’s demonstration was given by our new member: Kathleen Boyce.  She shared with us some techniques for creating a purse cake.

Kathleen also brought in the dragon cake she learned to make in Sylvia Wilson’s class:

Big thanks to Kathleen for sharing with us and to Charlotte for the yummy desserts!
