Quick Bites: Father’s Day
Today on Quick Bites, some tutorials on Father’s Day themed cakes. And don’t forget about our Father’s Day cake class: The Fish That Got Away. It’s this Sunday so sign up now if you want to attend, before the last slots fill up!
- If the dad in your life wears ties, or perhaps doesn’t but likes to pretend, Munchkin Munchies’ cute Necktie Cookies On A Stick make for fun play and eating.
- Most dads do wear shirts, even if they don’t wear ties. Hanielas Food and Photography shows you how to make Origami Shirt Cupcake Toppers.
- Golf seems to come up a lot in Father’s Day themes. MegaCrafty has instructions for a cute Golf Cupcake (via CraftGossip) and 1 Fine Cookie brings her creative and irreverent style to the theme with Beer and Bacon Golf Ball Cake Pops. Even if you don’t want to do the beer and bacon thing, her use of molds for the cake pops is very clever and adaptable to other subject matter and her method for doing the grass is brilliant.
I wanted to find some non-sports/ties Father’s Day ideas since my own husband isn’t into those things, and I figured other Austin area dads are likewise more into nerd culture, but sadly searches for nerdy cake tutorials kept bringing me back to my own cakes (flattering but not so useful for my blogging here). I’ll try again for Monday’s post but for now the best I came up with was this Nerdalicious post that includes a video of how a robot cake was made. Not very fatherly, though.
